Early Life of Walker Diggs
Walker Nathaniel Diggs was born on September 2, 2009, to celebrity parents, Idina Menzel and Taye Diggs.
Mother, father, and son are all doing well.
A few months prior to welcoming Walker, Taye spoke to People and revealed that they had a couple of names but hadn’t decided on them.
We have a couple [names] in the running. But part of us wants to see what he hits us with when we see him. We’ll see what he looks like.
Taye further revealed that they’d already had their nurseries done in both of their homes (one in New York and the other in Los Angeles).
We have a spot in New York and one in Los Angeles. Idina has both nurseries done. She did them herself, painted them, and today she’s putting together a bassinet. We’ve picked out our doula. My wife is so into it.
Relationship between Walker’s Parents
As mentioned earlier, Walker Nathaniel Diggs was born to Taye Diggs and Idina Menzel. The celebrity duo first met on the 1996 Broadway musical production, Rent. They married several years later in 2003.
Taye and Idina, however, decided to part ways and divorced a decade later in December 2013.

Mother’s Relationship after Divorce
Following her divorce from Taye Diggs, Walker’s mother, Idina Menzel got into a relationship with actor, Aaron Lohr. The duo got engaged on Friday, September 24, 2016, and announced the news through her Twitter.

Though the pair engaged in 2016, they had already started living together a year prior. Aaron and Idina had bought a 4,708 sq. ft. $2.675 million joint purchase of a five-bedroom and 5.5-bathroom residence in Encino.
Menzel and Lohr walked down the aisle a year later in 2017.
Father’s Relationship after Divorce
Walker’s father, Taye Diggs is currently dating Apryl Jones. They first met after he joined TikTok in December 2021. They sparked dating rumors when she started making appearances on his TikTok.
Taye and Apryl confirmed their relationship by attending Vanity Fair’s annual Oscar party in March 2022. They now make regular appearances on red carpets.
Walker Loves His Mom
In a 2021 interview with Glamour, Idina Menzel revealed that she had a pretty hard time turning 50. She had her fair share of insecurities.
I am ashamed to say it, but I was having a hard time with it. I think it was subconsciously bothering me more than I let on, in regard to my relevance as a performer and actress. I’m feeling like an old lady sometimes, and that’s not who I am. I feel very young at heart.
When Idina was battling with her insecurities, her son, Walker was there to help her overcome her vulnerabilities. From what his mom said, he told his mother to skip looking at the mirror and not worry about how she looked.

Idina Wrote Love Notes to Walker
Idina Menzel says she wrote little love notes to her son, Walker Nathaniel Diggs. Her mom did it to her and she is doing the same to her son.
I was always a mom that wrote little notes to my son, whether they’re embarrassing him or not. My mom did it to me.
Walker Caused His Dad’s Insomnia
Taye Diggs discussed his long-term struggle with insomnia and its impact on his relationship with his son while talking to host Janine Rubenstein on the People Everyday podcast in 2022.
This insomnia started when Walker was born. He wouldn’t sleep all the way through the night, so I wouldn’t know how many hours I would be awake, and then I’d have to work the next morning.
There was no way for Diggs to know how many hours of sleep he would get, which affected the quality of his work, and eventually, get him anxious. He would try to stay awake during the day and try to fall and stay asleep during the evening.
I always found little hacks that would kind of get me through and it wasn’t until just recently that my son took me aside and said, “What’s going on? You have work and then it’s time for us to hang out and you’re not really there.”
Walker’s words bothered him and he finally went to the doctor who prescribed insomnia medicine, Quviviq.
While speaking about his insomnia, Taye also revealed that his ex-wife, Idina Menzel, makes sure she spends enough time with their son.
Idina runs the show. She has a career and her own relationships and she still makes sure that Walker is where he needs to be when he needs. He’s got the best coaches and the best teachers, and we’re at the best schools, and it’s all because of her.
Tattoo Artist for Walker’s Dad, Taye Diggs
Walker Nathaniel Diggs is not actually a tattoo artist, however, his dad, Taye Diggs turned one of his doodles into a tattoo on his left forearm. The actor showed off his tattoo which reads “I Love Daddy” on his Instagram page.

Walker Diggs is a Sneaker Collector
While speaking to People about her new QVC clothing line, Encore, Walker Nathaniel Diggs’ mother, Idina Menzel revealed that her son loves sneakers and has a large collection.
I’ve been stealing his shoes. We’re now in the same size for sneakers, which is very exciting because he’s got a sneaker collection. The other day, I was too lazy to run up the stairs to get my own shoes, and I was running to pick him up at school, so I put on a pair of his Yeezys.
The actress revealed an instance when she showed up to pick her son up donning his pair of Kanye-West-created shoes. She still remembers the “look of death” her son gave her. He was worried she wouldn’t take care of his shoes.
Walker Inspired His Dad to Write Books
The Best Man actor Taye Diggs says his son, Walker Nathaniel Diggs inspired him to write books. In 2020, the actor teamed up with Baskin-Robbins and co-wrote the book, The Festival of Creatures, with his business partner and friend, Shannon Stoeke.

During an interview at the time, Diggs revealed that he generated interest in writing after he welcomed his son.
I very much enjoy writing children’s books. When Walker was born, I took a special interest in writing and I’ve had a really great time doing it.
Taye also revealed that his second book titled, Mixed Me! was directly inspired by Walker.
This one was inspired by my little boy, Walker Nathaniel Diggs, who is a product of a blended relationship. His mom’s vanilla and I’m dark chocolate.
Another one of his books, I Love You More Than…, which is a love letter from a father, who can’t provide full attention to his son, telling him he loves and misses him, is believed to show his relationship with his son.
Walker Doesn’t Really Care about Frozen
During an interview with People in 2019, Idina Menzel revealed that her son, Walker Nathaniel Diggs, doesn’t care about Frozen.
When he was in kindergarten and wanted a couple of cool crayons from a girl, he was like, “Hey, my mom’s in Frozen, I could get you an autograph.’ But other than that, he tells me to shut up in the car. I’m not allowed to sing.
The singer also claimed that her son didn’t like her sing since it made him miss her.
He doesn’t like to hear Mommy sing! The few times I’ve tried… he started to cry! He said, “Mommy, it makes me miss you.” I said, “What do you mean? I’m here!” He said, “It just makes me think about when you go onstage and I miss you.”
