Solana Imani Rowe, or you might all know her as SZA, has lost a lot of weight since the start of her career, where she was over 200 lbs.
Raised in Maplewood, New Jersey, by her TV Producer father and Telecommunications Executive mother, her dream was to become an Olympic gymnast, but her dreams changed when she did vocals for his rapper brother. Well, accidental or not, she’s become a star and, in the meanwhile, lost a ton of weight since starting her career.
Let’s get to know more of SZA’s weight loss details!
SZA Weighted 200 Lbs Before Getting into the Music Industry
Yes, you heard that, right! SZA weighed in at 200 lbs or 90.7 kg when she started her career as a musical artist. Because she was at 90 kg, she only sported baggy clothes and even wore her father’s shirts. And, since she wore such baggy clothes, her fans couldn’t see her meatier self.

In 2018, she was a part of the Dove’s Girl Collective launch, where she shared what it was like being 200 lbs and even spoke about being comfortable in her own skin.
It’s all about where it starts in your mind.
SZA reveals about being comfortable in her own skin.
SZA further revealed,
I only wore my dad’s big t-shirts and socks on stage, no shoes, and didn’t even notice; never complained or tripped about my makeup.
SZA talks about the time when she was quite heavy.
The singer thinks that it’s a good thing to be comfortable in your body, but she also believes that one should try to see his/her full potential. She speaks about it during her interview and also talks about how she came out of her comfort zone.
It was just a matter of where I was in my mind, but I did also come out of that space where I was like, I feel like I want to change. I want to be different. I want to grow. I want to learn. I think it’s one thing to be comfortable, but then it’s one thing to not see your full potential and your full picture. The standard should really come from within.
SZA on getting out her comfort zone.
Well, that might be the major reason why she started thinking about losing a few pounds though her manager never wanted her to lose weight.
Honestly, my manager, Punch, never asked me to ‘get dressed’ once. People would come to him like, ‘we need to clean her up,’ and he would say, ‘It’s fine. She’s fine.’
SZA’s manager never wanted her to lose weight.
Although she was never forced to lose weight, she found losing weight as a way out.
SZA’s Weight Loss Journey
We mentioned earlier that SZA lost weight after finding it as a way out. Well, she never liked the ’90s style, and yet she was always seen wearing it. Why? Because of her weight!
I’m low key into the ’90s style. I’ve consistently been dressing in baggy clothes because I was heavy. I was 200 pounds, but that’s not really public knowledge. I was a lot bigger, so wearing baggy clothes not so much as a ’90s thing, it was what was comfortable and what fit.
SZA talks about her not being able to wear what she wanted.
Because of this, SZA started taking care of herself and started working on herself. She started washing her face daily, took care of her teeth, and whatnot.
You can take care of your body and it will low-key show you respect in turn. You don’t have to wonder or wish to do things, you just have to be active about caring for yourself.
SZA describes the small changes in her lifestyle.
Weight loss wasn’t easy for her due to her digestive issues. But, she didn’t choose to lag behind and worked hard to lose weight and make her life beautiful. On August 19, 2017, she shared a list of foods that made her ill. Here’s the list!

SZA revealed what she thought about herself before weight loss.
On this very post, she goes on to talk about her weight loss secrets, which were changes to her lifestyle, portion control, and some discipline. By the time of this post, SZA was already weighing about 158 lbs or 71.6 kg.
I’m actually seeing some sustainable progress!! Today I faced the music and stepped on the scale to find out I’m finally 11 lbs down! From 169 – 158!!

No crazy diet, no shakes, no cute ass “tea,” no supplements, still no gym (yet). Just being more active (light hikes n strolls etc.) LOTS uh water + doing and eating what feels right for ME and my body (less cheese less sugar). Whether I’m slim jimmy or thicker than a lil bit, it’s all a journey, and I’m in no rush from 168-152 at my own lil pace and still going.

After she dropped weight, the musician revealed to Essence, what it felt like.
When I lost weight, I didn’t want to wear baggy clothes anymore. I worked really hard not to have to wear baggy clothes. And now I just feel like it’s how I’m generally comfortable. Instead of doing just what was available, I can wear what I want, and that’s a blessing.
SZA talks about weight loss as a blessing.
Well, to brief it down, the CRTL singer SZA went through a weight loss journey and shed over 50 lbs in a matter of months. Her secret? Well, she changed her lifestyle, didn’t consume fat and calories such as sugar and cheese, opted for a PescaVegan diet, and worked out but not at the gym. She chose outdoor activities such as hiking to lose weight, but she also loved to perform Pilates.
