Before getting a chance to play in Riverdale as his father’s younger counterpart, Michael Joseph Consuelos had no interest in acting. He never thought about becoming an actor until his appearance as Hiram Lodge.

I recently discovered I liked it. I think Riverdale was a really refreshing experience. Everyone was really cool. It was an amazing time.

After the 5 feet 9 inches tall actor, who had to audition for the role of his father’s younger self in Season 3, played the part, he fell in love with acting. But, this wasn’t his first acting role.

1. Broke

This fact about Michael Joseph Consuelos might seem a little off, but it isn’t. He grew up in a pretty solid penthouse (which was sold for $20 million in 2014), before living a lavish life at a new $27 million townhouse on the Upper East Side. But, after he grew up, he moved out of his parents’ home and started living on rent in Bushwick, Brooklyn, but he doesn’t save enough money to pay his rent.

I think he loves the freedom. He hates paying his own rent, and he’s chronically poor. I don’t think he ever really experiences extreme poverty like now.

This statement of Kelly sparked some backlash, but she bounced back, stating that she and her partner expect their son to work and earn a living.

Michael goes to college and is a senior and works full time. I didn’t grow up privileged, and neither did Mark. We work, and we expect our kids to as well.

Since Consuelos doesn’t save enough to pay his rent, he calls his parents now and then for some cash. While talking about this issue, his mom Kelly revealed what her parents did for her kids for Halloween.

My parents, for years, they always give my kids for Halloween, they mail them an envelope with $20 in it.

Though Ripa always asked her parents to stop sending the gifts since her kids didn’t appreciate it, they continuously kept on sending the same envelope for years. Now, since Michael has been staying on his own, he’s learned to appreciate small things in life.

For years my kids sort of ignored the $20, but now that he’s living on his own, he’s called three times, ‘Halloween envelope arrived?’ Just so he can have electricity. He’s experiencing being an adult.

They are also thrilled that they’re not having to do their own laundry and cook their own meals. They have a newfound appreciation for us (parents).
