Hillsman was born on January 16, 1971, in Cambridge, Massachusetts to parents, Mary and AC Hillsman Jr. Her father, an army officer, passed away on the Christmas Day of 2003 due to cancer. She grew up alongside her sister, Tarah Elan Hillsman Townsend.
She completed her schooling at Andover High School and joined Lowell General Hospital School of Nursing later on.
