Kannon was inspired by the Chinese Buddhist deity, Kuan-Yin. Since the name is so unique, it isn’t included in the list of top 1000 boy names of the past 20 years compiled by the Social Security Administration.
Kannon’s middle name, Valentine honors his late grandfather, Joseph Valentine Knipfing.

Kannon’s parents Kevin and Steffiana De La Cruz’s first meeting was on a blind date set up by a mutual friend. They started dating in the early 2000s. After a couple of years, they got engaged in the fall of 2003.
