Talking about how they met, Carol and her partner, Mike first met in Yosemite National Park, California in 1967 when both of them were working at the Camp Curry Cafeteria. While Mike worked as a cashier, Carol served as a waitress.
According to Mike, it was he who made the first move asking his beloved wife out on a date. For their date, the duo went to play tennis at the Ahwahnee Hotel Courts where she beat him 6-0, 6-0. (This might be the reason why Mike went on to become a tennis pro at Kuilima Hyatt Resort (now Turtle Bay Resort) in 1977.)

All of their kids have grown up and are doing their best in their respective professions. However, one of them stands out the most, their fourth child, Tulsi Gabbard. Tulsi, who’s married twice, became the youngest legislator elected in Hawaii and also the youngest woman elected as a US Senate Legislature at 21. And, now, she’s marching forward with her Campaign for the 2020 Presidential Elections.

Starting off with her highest professional achievement, Carol has served on the Hawaii State Board of Education for four years from 2000 to 2004. Prior to that, in 1998, she founded her toffee business, Hawaiian Toffee Treasures, which went on to be known as the ‘best Macadamia nut English toffee in the world.’ (Carol made the toffee but Mike claims it to be his extraordinary talent as the official taster that made the business so successful.)

In 2007, Carol co-founded Aloha Parenting Project (APP) a non-profit organization to educate and support parents to raise responsible and productive children. Besides these, she also supported her husband on his businesses such as Mike’s Sport Shot (1974-1978), Natural Deli (1988-1992), Talofa Services LLC (2013–Present), and Infotech Communiations LLC (June 2002-April 2004).
