Aled Jones always had a knack for singing. when he was nine years of age, he joined the Bangor Cathedral choir. By 11, he became the lead vocalist of the group and was signed by a local recording company Sain.
Somewhile later, Aled sang a cover version of Walking in the Air and this made him a sensation overnight. In 1985, his version of the song peaked at #5.
The song is from the Channel 4 movie, The Snowman, which was released in 1982. A choir boy from St. Paul’s Cathedral, Peter Auty, originally performed the song for the movie. But, since, Aled’s was more popular, he is known as the voice behind The Snowman.
By 16, he’d already had 16 albums under his name with the record sales of over six million copies. His voice broke at 16 but that didn’t stop him from topping the charts yet again.

1. Suspended For a Year From BBC

While the behaviour under review was not related to his work with the BBC, Aled recognises it was inappropriate and caused real distress to others. He has apologised for this and assured the BBC that there will be no repeat of this behaviour in future.
It was in January 2018 that the BBC called up Jones to resume his hosting job.
